FEBRUARY-BLACK HISTORY MONTH
A BRIEF REFLECTION
Black history should not and truthfully cannot be confined to a month of half-hearted memories: it is important that we remember that our her story spans thousands of years. While we are So often reminded of heroines such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Fannie Lou Hammer, Zora Neal Hurston and Marian Anderson, we must not forget our unnamed heroines--those proud Black women who have left us an unspoken legacy--a legacy of strength, courage and determination.
It is especially important that we as Black lesbians not allow the facts of our lives to be buried or ignored. This month can be the beginning of our search to uncover our herstory as Black women and as lesbians. It can also be a time to start documenting Our stories future generations of Black lesbians. encourage you to use ONYX (BLN) vehicle to fill in some of of those lost pieces of our Black herstories.

We are concerned that women's/lesbian publica- tions have often failed to reflect the experiences and viewpoints of Third World, working-class and older women. CONDITIONS includes work in a variety of styles by both published and unpublished writers of many different backgrounds. We wel- come submissions from all women who feel that a commitment to other women is an integral part of their lives.
